JJ
Pug
JJ came into our care as an unclaimed stray.
JJ has been in the care of a foster home for the past two months and he is thriving and learning how to 'be more dog' under the tender tutelage of his foster brother. JJ is 9 years old.
His weight loss program and exercise regime have transformed his mobility and energy levels and JJ smashed 'Couch to 5k' within a few weeks!
JJ is possibly the easiest little dog one could wish for! He is spotlessly clean in the home. Around the home JJ is friendly but not clingy. He enjoys a cwtch next to his people on the sofa, but is not in the least bit 'needy' and will very happily settle in his own company when left alone, or with his foster brother if his humans are busy elsewhere.
He sleeps soundly through the night, and if he has had a particularly busy day he will take himself off to his bed of his own accord in the evening.
He gets super-excited to see his foster mum pick up his harness when it's time for walkies! He travels well in the car (crated with his foster brother).
He has been fine with every dog he has met, just exchanges polite sniffs. He has shown exemplary manners around humans too!
JJ absolutely adores his foster brother. Chad has helped him navigate and understand everything that is new and strange, he settles in his company when the humans are not around. JJ has obviously lived a very sedentary life, and left to his own devices he would likely lounge on a comfy sofa all day long. His default position is definitely horizontal! His foster brother brings out his inner puppy though! They have settled into a routine of early morning and early evening playtime, and JJ does follow his big bro around the garden, on the look-out for imaginery butterflies, exploring the hog house for signs of life, and he is now able to join Chad on more energetic adventures.
JJ would definitely benefit from having another young, fit dog in his new home to encourage him to exercise a bit more but could also be rehomed as only dog. He can live with cats.
The adopter would have to continue to work to reduce JJ's weight. As he still has a little weight to lose it is important that his new humans ensure he has the correct diet to continue to aid his weight loss, he has done so well and the last thing we want is for him to gain weight once he's been rehomed.
JJ doesn't appreciate being picked up, or over-fussed, so would probably be happiest in an adult only home, or one with older children who can respect and accommodate his need for a calm and predictable environment.
