Job description
Job Title: Kennel Assistant
Location: West Wales Poundies Dog Rescue, Llansawel, Carmarthenshire.
Hours: Part time. Negotiable (to be discussed with successful applicant)
Pay: National Living Wage or National Minimum Wage depending on age.
About Us:
West Wales Poundies is a small dedicated dog rescue charity, committed to providing care and a safe haven for dogs in need. We work with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments, ensuring they receive the attention, care and love they deserve while they wait for their forever homes.
Job Summary:
We are looking for a hardworking and compassionate Kennel Assistant to join our team. This is a physically demanding role that involves cleaning, feeding, exercising, and providing basic care for the dogs at our rescue. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar role and/or experience working with a variety of dog breeds and sizes. This role is hands-on and far from glamorous (think muddy paws, dog hair, and plenty of cleaning and walking!) Our working environment is fast paced, and we are on our feet for much of the day, often outside and in all weathers.
Working with our small team of staff and volunteers, you will have a hand in helping the dogs in our care, from feeding, exercising, cleaning, grooming and socialising. This can be physically and emotionally demanding but is also hugely rewarding.
Key Responsibilities:
* Cleaning and maintaining kennels to a high standard of hygiene
* Preparing and providing food and fresh water for the dogs
* Exercising, socialising, and providing enrichment activities for the dogs
* Monitoring the health and wellbeing of the dogs and reporting any concerns
* Handling dogs of all sizes, which may at times include those with behavioural or medical needs
* Assisting with vet visits, adoptions, and general rescue operations as needed
Requirements:
* Full driving licence and own transport due to our rural location
* Confidence working with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments
* Experience in a similar role or hands-on experience with dogs preferred
* Reliable, hardworking, and passionate about animal welfare
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Prepared to work in all weather and conditions
* A reliable team player with a proactive attitude
* Excellent communication skills, able to interact professionally with members of the public and colleagues
Why join us?
* Rewarding opportunity to make a difference in the lives of rescue dogs
* Flexible working hours (to be discussed)
* Hands-on experience in a rescue environment
* Be part of a supportive and passionate team
If you are passionate about dog welfare and think this role is for you, we’d love to hear from you!
